Parvati is the wife of Shiva and an attribute of the female deity Shakti. She is mother to the elephant-headed god Ganesha as well as the war god Kartikeya. Parvati is symbolized by the yoni, which is the female aspect to Shiva's male linga stone. Her main purpose is essentially to serve as Shiva's lovely wife and the mother to his children.
